In this video, I take you behind the scenes of finishing a 48″ x 48″ oil painting that completely fell apart. What started as a loose, abstract piece with bold shapes and free brushstrokes turned into a total disaster. I added color. I added black. I added white. I added collage. I scraped it ALL off. (Yes… all of it.)
This is me showing you the underbelly of being an artist — the struggle, the doubt, the “what was I thinking?!” moments that we all go through. But here’s the twist: when I finally stopped fighting the painting and listened to it… something unexpected appeared. And I woke up the next morning to realize I had painted a dog.
This piece is proof that sometimes the best thing we can do is trust the process, trust ourselves, and let the painting speak.
Watch to the end to see the final reveal — and tell me:
What kind of dog do you see? And what should we name it?
Remember: trust your gut, even when the canvas feels like it’s fighting back
