It has been a long time since I have added to my blog. A lot has happened in my life, some good … some bad. I am happy to say I am now back on track. I, like many of you, am happy to turn a new decade. New hopes, dreams, wishes, desires all filled with determination that the goals set in our hearts and minds will be fulfilled.
The art world has had a set back like many other industries. The big question being asked by so many artists today is “What do I do?”, “How can I continue to make money with my art?” Sound questions. In order not to get ahead of ourselves let’s get down to basics. Here are some questions to ask yourself. Pour yourself a cup of tea, sit in a comfortable chair and thoughtfully answer.
1. What do you really enjoy doing?
2. Are you doing this?
3. Have you written down your desires and goals?
4. Do you have them where you can see them each day?
5. Do you constantly wonder what others think about your art or creative vent?
6. If your Doctor told you, you had two years to live what would you want to accomplish. ( I, personally, would not clean another toilet!)
There are many more questions but these will suffice. Begin this decade thinking about YOU and what YOU want to do with your art and your life. Write down the things you want to accomplish this year. Not just with your art but in your life. Place that paper with your written goals in an envelope. This envelope should be put in a safe place and not opened until January 1, 2011. It will be interesting to hear next year what each of you have accomplished. Bet you will be wonderfully surprised and pleased.
The key is to have these goals where you can see them everyday. Put them on a 3×5 card. Have them on your desk, bathroom mirror or wherever is a good place for you. This will keep your goals and desires you have for the year in front of you and on your brain everyday.
