Well folks, I’m back! It has been a whirlwind of happenings during the last couple months. Daughter had surgery (she is fine), Son moved to Costa Rica and I am now in Taos, New Mexico. It feels good to be able to blog and be in a normal….whatever normal is….way of thinking and living life.
With all that has gone on, the drive to Taos proved to be one of my best. It is such a gorgeous drive and just the right amount of time on the road….especially with two German Shepherds.
The weather in Taos has been cool which has only added to my indulgence of curling up in front of the kiva fireplace with the fire spewing out quiet thoughts. Each evening I step out to observe the millions of stars that grace the New Mexico sky.
I have discovered that “play time” is extremely important in our creative life. You may already know this but the question is, do you give yourself time to play?
I decided to paint chairs...why chairs?…..because they are frumpy, hard, soft, rickety, formal, casual and contain conversations that have been told in private. Chairs lead lives that make me smile. This painting was done on metal and painted with oil….acrylics would have worked as well. It was fun using different color combination’s, wacky pattern and perspective gone array. What a gift to be free and see what happens. The chair paintings represent fun, play, letting go and just being.
Try painting for fun and see how you feel. Let me know if it works. I bet you will approach your next paintings with much more freedom because you gave yourself permission to PLAY.
