Just finished two workshops The Abstracts That Glow workshop and Intimate Design and Color workshop with some pretty specular artists. Both were exciting fun filled days that produced glorious paintings and cemented the love of art in each artist. It was interesting to have the workshops in my studio and it worked out fabulously.
Wilson and Dog (de-o-gee) really enjoyed all the attention and Wilson had the job of checking on everyone each day to make sure they were happy….that is part of being a German Shepherd. There were many questions and observations that came up during the workshop that I would like to share with you.
One questions was: when do you know you are ready to go big with your art?
The answer is simple….probably before you even asked the question. Why? If you are even thinking about going big in your art then that question has festered inside you for a long time. Here is another thing…artists think they will step up when they are stronger, better, got it together, etc. But here is the truth …you need to step up in order to get stronger…that is where strength comes from.
Another thing, we as artists try so hard to not make mistakes with our painting. When we enter the studio we want to paint a painting that is going to be our best. That is our goal.
I have a suggestion…go into the studio and have a “Trash Can Painting Day”. Perhaps we should make this an official day. Actually it is so much fun to paint knowing it is going into the trashcan.
What happens to your mind when you do this? You have zero pressure, you smile a lot, you try colors you would never put together because you are free…free to explore, go deep within yourself and free to let go of the “I should do this and I shouldn’t do this”
Perhaps when that happens you become that stronger artist you dream about. Perhaps perfection is forgotten. Let go of the walls that keep you from becoming your best…you are safe without your walls. This next week decide when will be your Trash Can Painting Day and let me know what happens. Also, just a heads up….I will be starting a Artist Mastermind group within the next couple months. If you are interested please contact me via email or if you have any questions about it feel free to call…575-751-0183.
This will be an exciting and progressive group of artists who will grow tremendously because of the support and masterminding. I will be writing more about this soon so get ready to grow with confidence.
