When I started entering juried shows, the rejection letters kept coming in – much to my dismay.
I am sure you know the feeling. The questions arose: Why was my painting turned down? What were the judges looking for?
It took me 6 more months to figure it out. That’s what I’m going to share with you today – so you don’t have to wonder WHY your art is getting rejected.
Does this sound familiar?
You spend weeks working on what you’ve learned – and in between painting, you’re managing time with your family, life chores and events. When you set aside time to work on your gallery-worthy piece, it takes 20-30 minutes just to get into a creative flow or pick-up where you left off with the same energy and feeling.
Then, once you’re finished putting in everything you’ve learned from the last course or workshop…your painting gets a rejection letter.
You’re not alone in this. I’ve had over 10,000 students over my years as a Teacher & Art coach come to me confused and on the brink of giving up.
All it takes is a slight shift in direction to overcome this; and I’ve helped those same students turn their art around going from rejection to acceptance.
The reason why artists get their art rejected from shows and galleries, or they never sell a single piece of their artwork is because they were NEVER taught how to uncover their unconscious strengths. Artists tend to paint what they’ve learned in workshops and courses, to the T. This doesn’t create a personal painting done by you! It is a sort of copycat type of painting. You need to develop the “special sauce” you put in your painting.
This is what I call — your Unique Voice.
You know…your signature style, your Unique style, so your painting isn’t a copycat!
I vividly remember this frustration, and even anger, as I searched desperately to find that voice that was mine and mine alone.
For two years, I struggled with the many rejection letters that kept arriving in my mailbox and I kept asking the question…”What are the judges looking for?”
Starting my third year of entering shows, I entered the Rocky Mountain National in Boulder, Colorado. It was on a whim that I entered and to my surprise and amazement I not only got in, but won one of the top awards.
I was elated at this new phase in my life: I finally broke the string of rejection letters!
The next day I entered my studio with more questions than answers. What was special about this painting? What did the jurors see that I could not see? I should have been happy, but I wasn’t.
I closed the studio door, locked it, went over and sat in my comfortable chair and I cried.
Why?
Because I had just gotten into a major juried show, won a big award and I didn’t have a clue as to what made that painting award worthy.
It was this ignorance that filled me with frustration and emptiness.
I knew the work was just beginning to finding the answers to my many questions.
After years of working on this, I now know the answers that would help you tremendously. This is why I created the on-line Master Class. It is a step by step course to help you understand how to create paintings that deepen your creative voice.
I am opening up 20 spots for 20 artists. I will help you reveal your unique voice so you can paint gallery worthy, captivating art. You will learn to do this using your natural and unique style that tells your story while evoking emotion…
… NOT a replica painting like your last instructor.
