In this video, I’m sharing a painting that didn’t go the way I expected, and honestly, it frustrated me more than I’d like to admit.
I had a clear vision in my head. The colors, the feeling, the composition. But what showed up on the canvas was something completely different. Instead of stepping back, I kept pushing, adding, and changing, trying to fix it. Sound familiar?
What I eventually realized is that I was missing something important. Something subtle, beautiful, and already working. Because I didn’t slow down and really see it, I painted right over it.
In this video, I walk you through:
– The full painting process, including all the messy stages
– The mistakes I made along the way
– How I used stencils and layering in oil painting
– The moment things finally started to click
– The biggest lesson I learned about stepping back and observing
This painting isn’t perfect, but it taught me so much. That is really the point.
If you’ve ever felt frustrated because your painting does not match what is in your head, I hope this helps you stick with it and see your work in a new way.
What do you do when a painting is not working? Have you ever painted over something you loved?
I would love to hear your thoughts. If you have questions about anything I did, just ask. I am here for you.
